Admission
All bachelor's programmes in the social sciences have an entrance exam procedure. This means that you can only apply for admission once a year (in spring) for the following academic year, even if you plan on starting your studies in the summer semester.
Please enquire in advance about the current application and admission deadlines.
You must report the continuation of your studies (= re-enrolment) in a timely manner each semester.
You can find all the information about the entrance exam procedure and the application for admission at studieren.univie.ac.at/en/entrance-exam/. Specific information on the entrance exam procedure for the respective bachelor's programmes is also linked in our overview of the Social Science bachelor's programmes.

I missed the application deadline for the entrance exam procedure. What now?
For admission to a degree programme with an entrance exam procedure, there is generally no way around submitting the application within the application period.
There is no grace period and no ‘distribution of vacant spots’!If you have already completed the joint entrance exam procedure for the Bachelor's programmes in Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology, you do not have to do so again. If you would like to switch between the Bachelor's programmes in the Social Sciences or start an additional programme, please send a request to the Servicedesk.
Please note: A change of degree programme may jeopardise your entitlement to federal aid for students (german) and family allowance (german)! Please clarify the potential impact on your residence permit directly with the Municipal Department 35 (MA 35) or the district administration (Bezirkshauptmannschaft).
Therefore, please inform yourself in advance about the possible consequences of a change of degree programme and only make this decision after careful consideration!
